{"id":941,"date":"2012-04-14T00:24:38","date_gmt":"2012-04-14T07:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/endless-swarm.com\/?p=941"},"modified":"2012-04-14T00:25:18","modified_gmt":"2012-04-14T07:25:18","slug":"the-insect-art-of-monique-ligons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/endless-swarm.com\/?p=941","title":{"rendered":"The Insect Art of Monique Ligons"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bonafidejawn.tumblr.com\/post\/6341894270\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.frankenmunkee.com\/art\/Bertran_DeBorn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"604\" height=\"807\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Monique Ligons, Bertran de Born, 2010<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Using Gustave <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldofdante.org\/gallery_dore.html\">Dor\u00e9<\/a>&#8216;s iconic works as a starting point, Philadelphia artist <a href=\"http:\/\/bonafidejawn.tumblr.com\/\">Monique Ligons<\/a>\u00a0 created a <a>series of paintings<\/a> where humans have been replaced by insects and arachnids, entitled the <a href=\"http:\/\/hifructose.com\/the-blog\/1115-monique-lignons-biblical-insectarium.html\"><em>Biblical Insectarium<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bertran_de_Born\">Bertran de Born<\/a>, (a baron and poet whom Dante and Dor\u00e9 depicted in Hell holding his head like a lantern), is replaced by a Jerusalem cricket.\u00a0 The cricket&#8217;s human-like head is made all the more uncanny when held by an upright insect on two legs.
